“When The Candle Went Out” is a dark urban fantasy novelette that follows a condemned man during the final hours before his execution. Blending fantasy with thought-provoking themes, it explores conscience, justice, remembrance, and the value of a single human life, inviting readers to reflect on compassion and the difficult questions society often avoids.
What did you love most about writing this book?
Exploring difficult moral questions through fiction. I wanted to write a story that stayed with readers long after they finished the final page.
How did you start writing?
I've loved storytelling for as long as I can remember. Over time, that passion grew into writing fiction and journalism, eventually leading me to found Equal Myth Press.
Tell us a little bit about your self-publishing experience.
Self-publishing has been both challenging and rewarding. It has allowed me to maintain complete creative control while learning everything from editing and design to marketing and website development.
What was your biggest challenge in bringing the book to market, and how did you solve it?
The biggest challenge was standing out in a crowded market. I focused on building a professional website, creating helpful resources for writers, and connecting with readers who appreciate meaningful, thought-provoking fiction.
What's one piece of advice you have for other writers?
Don't wait for perfection. Finish your story, keep learning, and improve with every project. Consistency matters more than perfection.
