Tell us what your book, “Dark Honey,” is about!
Sure! Here’s the summary:
Dark Honey is a poetry collection that explores love, pain, healing, self-discovery, and the emotions we sometimes keep hidden. It represents both the sweetness and darkness that can exist within our experiences. The poems are personal and emotional, finding beauty even in difficult moments.
What did you love most about writing this book?
What I loved most about writing Dark Honey was being able to take different emotions and turn them into poetry. It truly made me feel something! I could be honest about the beautiful parts of life while also writing about the darker and more complicated feelings. Poetry gives me the freedom to make something beautiful out of emotions that aren't always beautiful.
How did you start writing?
I started writing when I was young. As a child, I would fold pieces of paper together and create my own little books and magazines. As I got older, I started keeping journals and writing down my thoughts, feelings, and poetry. I even had a notebook called Love Lines where I kept little fragments that could eventually become poems.
Tell us a little bit about your self-publishing experience.
I learned self-publishing mostly on my own through research, watching other authors, and simply doing it. There was a lot of trial and error, but every book taught me something new. Self-publishing gave me the freedom to tell my stories the way I wanted and be involved in the entire process.
What was your biggest challenge in bringing the book to market, and how did you solve it?
One of my biggest challenges was learning that publishing a book doesn't automatically mean people will find it. I had to learn how to promote myself and my work. I started using social media, creating promotional content, connecting with authors and readers, and finding new opportunities to get my books seen. I'm still learning and growing with every book I publish.
What's one piece of advice you have for other writers?
Don’t wait until everything is perfect to start. Write the idea down, even if it’s only one sentence. Your first draft doesn’t have to be perfect, and neither do you. Keep learning, keep creating, and don’t compare your journey to another writer’s. Your voice is yours for a reason.
Anything else you want folks to know?
I want people to know that I’m more than just one type of writer. I love exploring different genres and finding new ways to create. I’m also passionate about supporting other indie authors through The Authors Network. I believe there is room for all of us to tell our stories, grow, and be seen!
