Meet Michael Mullin, author of “Gothic Revival”

Tell us what your book, “Gothic Revival” is about!

Sure! Here’s the summary:

Old friends from an MFA Writing Program reunite, but all is not what it seems to be.

What did you love most about writing this book?

Creating all the layers of the characters and making sure all the pieces fit together in an engaging way.

How did you start writing?

Way back in college. I switched majors from Economics to English. A mix of passion and talent led to my getting an MFA in writing.

Tell us a little bit about your self-publishing experience.

I took this last book more seriously and have focused more on social media and getting myself and my book "out there."  I don't stress too much about success. I like that the books exist. It's a question of legacy for me.

What was your biggest challenge in bringing the book to market and how did you solve it?

Bringing to market was easy this time. The challenge is building awareness. That's ongoing, of course, and I don't put timetables or deadlines on that. Gaining new followers and fans is ongoing, and it's always rewarding.

What's one piece of advice you have for other writers?

Read a lot, and read critically. Be the reader who can point out how and why a really popular book doesn't actually work. (I'm talking particularly about the plot of thrillers, my genre.)

Anything else you want folks to know?

I was both a preschool teacher and a college professor.
