Meet Jillian Eagan, author of “The Silence of Deceit”

Tell us what your book, “The Silence of Deceit,” is about!

Sure! Here’s the summary:

Sheltered noblewoman, Rosalie Yorke is thrust into danger and unexpectedly rescued by Crowe, a ruthless pirate captain. Along with Rosalie's best friend, Silence, they must survive betrayal, uncover long-buried secrets, and face a tyrant who could destroy everything Rosalie loves.

What did you love most about writing this book?

It helped me work through a lot of my struggles with chronic illness. Being able to write a strong character like Rosalie, who suffers similar pains as I d,o helped me realize I'm capable of more than I realize.

How did you start writing?

As soon as I learned how to read and write, I would jot down little stories. I remember my mom showing me how to use Microsoft Word so I could type up stories, print them out, staple the pages together, and show them to my family. From there, I continued writing and majored in creative writing in college.

Tell us a little bit about your self-publishing experience.

I attempted to go through the traditional route. After querying for a year and a half and getting hundreds of rejections, I considered throwing in the towel. I was really disheartened, and I had never been so insecure about my writing. One day, I decided I wasn't going to wait for someone to give me permission. I started doing research, made a plan, and took on probably the hardest project I've ever finished.

What was your biggest challenge in bringing the book to market, and how did you solve it?

I really wasn't social media savvy before starting this journey. I had never used TikTok and hadn't touched Instagram in years. But I knew a lot of marketing these days is through social media. So I reached out to someone who knew social media well, and she gave me a rundown on how to get started.

What's one piece of advice you have for other writers?

You will always be your harshest critic, so don't be afraid to share your writing. I would advise people to find critique partners outside of their friend/family circles. Other writers and prolific readers will give you the best advice for your book.
