Meet Natalie Saar, author of “Do What I Say”
Tell us what your book, “Do What I Say” is about!
Sure! Here’s the summary:
Think twice before sending that shady text to your friend... or it might just end in murder.
Claire Robinson lived the charmed life of Hollywood royalty, but always struggled to make real friends, until she met Morgana. Or so she thought…
Morgana Tate conned her way across the country and finally found the perfect stepping stone to walk all over when she met Claire. Until their fake friendship quickly turned into a relationship based on deceit, threats, and a plan to not only steal Claire’s boyfriend, but her entire life.
This domestic thriller will keep you guessing if Claire can escape Morgana right until the final turn of the screw.
What did you love most about writing this book?
The ending! I had the idea for this book rolling around in my mind for quite awhile, but then when the ending dawned on me, everything clicked into place.
I also loved basing the house on my grandma's cousin's Los Feliz house where she spent a lot of time during her life. My grandma was able to read the book before she passed away and said it was so special to see familiar details in the story.
How did you start writing?
I've been spinning stories for as long as I can remember. As a kid, I'd put on puppet shows for my parents with some sock puppets my mom made me. Once self-publishing came on the scene, it was like a whole new world opened up to me.
Tell us a little bit about your self-publishing experience.
I started self-publishing back in 2012 when KDP was just gaining popularity. Overall, I'd say my experience has been one of trial-and-error, but it's given me the tools to help a lot of other self-published authors along the way. I love that with ever new book, I get to learn more and more.
What was your biggest challenge in bringing the book to market and how did you solve it?
The biggest challenge is just getting visibility. I'm not sure I've solved it yet, but I've looked at it as a pro instead of a con because it's forced me to learn more about the self-publishing industry as a whole.
What's one piece of advice you have for other writers?
Just write! I'm an emphatic advocate for people to tell the story that's in their mind. Even if they need the help of an editor, or if it takes years to finish, putting that story out into world is a beautiful act worth pursuing.
